A puppy always tells his dog owner whether he is getting too much or too little food in several ways. Crying is one of the most often recognized, but least likely to be always accurate. Although hungry puppies do cry, so do cold puppies, hot puppies, puppies that were disturbed from a nap, lost puppies, sad puppies, etc.

Crying is simply nature’s way of giving a puppy a means of telling everybody that he is unhappy. Anything that makes a puppy unhappy will probably also make him cry, even having his tummy too full. Therefore, to say that a puppy is crying because he is hungry requires a judgment on the owner’s part. And since we do not think like a puppy, we have to use the reactions of the puppy’s system to determine whether or not he is getting enough to eat.

Every time you feed a puppy, two things should happen. First, he should have a bowel movement and second, he should urinate. Sometimes a puppy may need a little encouragement by rubbing his anal area, but he should always perform both acts if everything is going right. The makeup and amount of his feces and urine are important clues that tell you how well you are doing when it comes to properly feeding your pet. For one thing, the puppy’s stool should be formed as it is expelled, but its consistency should be soft and pasty. The color will depend to some extent on what you are feeding him. But in every case, it should not vary from a pale tan to a mahogany brown. The inside of the stool may be yellow-brown in many cases. Stools that are green, bluish-white or clear signal trouble.

Even tan or brownish stools that are watery, lumpy, hard or curdled may indicate something is not right.

Begin the following feeding with a formula that has been diluted one-half with boiled water. Continue to feed the same quantity as you did the undiluted food. If this fails to produce an improvement in the stool, reduce the quantity you are feeding by 25 % at each feeding. If stools continue to be off-color or off-form, consult your vet.

A puppy’s urination is an indicator of his water balance. The quantity should be about the same each time the puppy urinates. It might be pale yellow to almost clear, but should never be deep yellow or orange. Also, it should always be like water and never like syrup and should smell like urine. Urine that is scanty, dark in color, or syrupy, indicates that the pup is not getting enough water. More water should be supplied, either added to the formula or fed separately. If the urine seems excessive in amount, unduly clear, or thin, the water concentration of the formula should be re-checked to make sure that he is not getting too much water. If urine production stops altogether for longer than four feedings, take the puppy to a vet as soon as poss puppy care.

American Pit Bull

If your dog has diarrhea mixing rice with their food and even some un-flavored Metamucil helps to firm up stool. Pedigree is really not a very good food to begin with. Neither is IAMs good, Purina or any of the other foods you have usually heard of.

The first several ingredients are usually corn, meat by products and white or brewers rice. (no nutritional value)  Because of this, our dogs need to eat more than you would expect just to get the nutrients they need to stay healthy.  Also, Science Diet and Eukanuba are not very healthy dog foods either. They used to be ok, but they were bought out by other companies.  Now to save money, they changed the ingredients to fillers and by products making the dog food much less healthy.

These foods cost about the same as all naturals dog foods.  You should be sure to check the ingredients of your dogs food yourself. Try to stay away from these three ingredients; corn, meat by products of any kind, and white or brewers rice.

Go for foods with chicken, chicken meal, or any meats that don’t have by product after them, and BROWN rice. These are good foods. Try a specialty pet store and ask the quality of their dog food.  Precise, Royal Canine, and Verus are all really good dog foods.

When you look at the ingredients they will be along the lines of Chicken, brown rice and usually another protein source such as chicken meal. (chicken meal is just dehydrated chicken, very good)  Your dog will need to eat much less of these foods so even though it costs, more you go through less food and it ends up saving you money. Your dog will poop less, live longer and are be healthier.

These foods are also all natural and organic so they are never involved in any recalls; you know your food is always safe.  Go to your local pet store and ask about these brands…

 Proponents of BSL usually say protecting the public from dog breeds viewed as having ‘inherent’ tendencies to aggressive behavior will eliminate dog human altercations.  In general, much of the public believes that dangerous dogs must be of a certain breed, such as larger breeds, or smaller terrier breeds.  Many  of those ideas stem from TV and newspapers.

Some proponents believe that dogs such as the American Pit bull Terrier’s jaw strength, or ‘different’ muscular ability, and the like make it more potentially adverse to the public.  However, the idea that a generic pit bull type dog has superior jaw strength is actually a complete myth.  Interestingly this myth was also supposedly true for Doberman Pinschers, but now it is no longer considered true for the Doberman.  The musculature assertion is also false.  Consider that while the American Pit Bull Terrier does well in weight pull competitions, it is by no means superior in that other breeds in the same weight classes have beaten these dogs.

The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs explains why Pit Bulls are prohibited in Great Britain.   “The types prohibited by breed specific legislation were all considered to have been bred to be fighting dogs like Pit Bulls.  Dog fighting is illegal in Britain.  Under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 other types of dogs can be added to the list.”

Pit Bulls are regulated by breed specific legislation in the United Kingdom, administered by the government agency DEFRA.  It is illegal to own these dogs without an exemption.  Licensing is done by the local government and Pit Bulls must be muzzled and kept on a leash at all times when in public.  And according to the breed specific legislation, they must be registered as well as insured and receive special microchip implants in their ear. 

Pit Bulls that stem from genetic lines that were producing fighting dogs are more inclined to have this tendency than Pit Bulls from lines that were not selected for fighting in recent a generation. In any case, regardless of how long it has been since your dog’s ancestors were used for fighting, his instinct and ability to fight another dog remains with him. It is in his blood and one of his original reasons for existence. So keep in mind that the gentlest and calmest of Pit Bulls who will never dare start a fight will also never dare back down from one that another dog has started.

Each breed of dog has a tendency to do what its genes tell it to do. Refusing to accept that fact is not only unfair but irresponsible. Denying that your Pit Bull’s heritage is one of gameness and toughness is like denying that a Golden Retriever has a tendency to retrieve. On the other hand, retrievers are not the only breed that is inclined to retrieve, just as the Pit Bulls are not the only breed that is inclined to fight. If you are adamant about not getting a dog that carries the possibility of being aggressive or fighting with another dog, then it is wise to not get more than one Pit Bull.

With all types of dog breeds out there, there is always a great deal of variation. Many Pit Bulls get along wonderfully with other dogs while some may not get along with them at all. There are also many breeds out there that are far less tolerant of living with other dogs than Pit Bulls are. Although Pit Bulls that were brought up in a fighting environment and came from fighting lines are most likely inclined to be aggressive toward other dogs, other breeds that were raised in the most friendliest of homes and came from the gentlest of lines may not get along with other dogs.

Raven has been a very enjoyable addition to our kennel.   She is a very sweet , loving, high energy level bitch.   She is currently co-owned with kenny gonzales of taylor made terriers.   She will be bred this year to national grand champion malosi.  Who was the #1 apbt in the nation for the year 2007.

 
He is a sweet, loving , easy going , enjoyable dog to have.  He just made his UKC show debut in july . He is currently major pointed with 55 points towards his championship.
